José Saramago

"Say what we may of the inadequacy of translation, yet the work is and will always be one of the weightiest and worthiest undertakings in the general concerns of the world."

 J. W. Goethe

"Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture."

Olga Dumer

Dr. Olga Dumer, Associate Professor ESL/English. I was born, raised, and educated in Moscow, Russia and began learning English at the age of ten.

After I got my M.A at the Department of Foreign Languages in Moscow Pedagogical Institute, I became a teacher of English as a Second Language, the profession to which I have been dedicated my whole life. I have always been interested in linguistics: the exploration of various language means in different languages is a fascinating process! My doctoral thesis in Linguistics was awarded by the Russia Academy of Sciences and was focused on the problems of translation. Translating poetry from and into English has been my lifelong hobby.
